The Role

Welcome to The Heights, Burnley. We are a 5-16 Alternative Provision School. Our provision caters for those pupils who have found it difficult to achieve in a mainstream school. Our staff are dedicated and committed to providing the best educational experiences including vocational studies, learning outside of the classroom, personal and social development programmes, as well as the core curriculum: developing successful learners who can make a positive contribution to, and are prepared for, their future working lives.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Construction Instructor to join The Heights Burnley, an Alternative Provision School, close to the M65 in Burnley.  

The school provides high quality education within a purpose built, state of the art educational environment for pupils aged five to sixteen. In addition to providing the core subjects, The Heights Burnley also offers specialist vocational learning for pupils who have found it difficult to achieve in their mainstream setting. 


Main job purpose and responsibilities:

  • To carry out effectively the duties of a vocational instructor and school lead for construction within an alternative provision school.
  • To instruct and tutor classes in areas to include woodworking, machine operating, paint & decorating and as designated within an agreed framework of syllabus.
  • Preparing and delivering lessons according to agreed schemes of work and keeping accurate records of work and independent learning set.
  • Correcting pupils’ work promptly, thoroughly, carefully and in positive way according to agreed procedures and policy.
  • Engaging pupils in the assessment process by regular feedback to individual pupils indicating the ways in which improvements and progress can be made, according to agreed time schedules.
  • Setting appropriate learning targets for students which are based on current data and which are both shared with the students and used in continuous assessment.
  • Keeping accurate and adequate records of pupils’ progress and completing reports within agreed timescales and according to the school policies.
  • To lead on the vocational provision across school
  • To carry out line management responsibilities specific to the role.
