Catering Assistant

The Role

The Job:

The Heights Blackburn seek to appoint a Catering Assistant on a term time only and part time basis working 28.5 hours per week. The actual salary is £15,403 to £15,920 per annum.

What does this job do?

• Carry out duties as directed by the Catering Manager meeting the required standards at all times including assisting the rest of the team with any cleaning tasks (including dining tables and dining hall floor) as directed by the Catering Supervisor/Manager.
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety and security, Child Protection, confidentiality and data protection and reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. 
• Ensure that all Health and Food Safety policies are adhered to. 
• Use all equipment in a safe manner and report any faults/incidents to the appropriate member of staff.
• Daily catering and handling of hot and cold foods for pupils within the school.

What are the job requirements?

• Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 2.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety and Food Safety legislation
• Experience of working within a catering establishment.

About The Heights, Blackburn

The Heights is a Key Stage 2 - Key Stage 4 Alternative Provision School for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.

We are very proud of the provision we offer and work in close partnership with local schools, the local authority, external agencies and parents/carers to deliver highly personalised learning programmes.

At Key Stage 2 & 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain qualifications on par with mainstream schools and with the skills needed to ensure a successful transition to college, training or employment.

Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs.

Many of the young people who attend The Heights, arrive here at a difficult period in their lives. We aim to ensure that we give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
