The Role

Burnley High School wishes to appoint a hardworking, enthusiastic and committed Science Teacher who will also take on the responsibility of Second in Science Department for the school. You will either already be a middle leader or a teacher with an ambition to move into leadership. The successful candidate will be a highly determined, outstanding classroom practitioner who has the potential to offer positive leadership and management of the team and ensuring accountability for student progress.

 

The role will include:

  • Support the Head of Department in reviewing, designing, and implementing an ambitious, well-sequenced, and knowledge-rich curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that teachers across the department develop and sustain strong subject knowledge in Science and effective approaches to teaching.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching strategies that help students to secure long-term knowledge and connect learning to broader ideas.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of an effective assessment framework that enables students to embed and apply knowledge fluently, while providing clear insights to inform teaching practice.
  • Support the Head of Department in ensuring that pupils gain detailed knowledge and skills across the curriculum, so that all students achieve well

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Good Honours Degree with specialism in Science
  • Secure knowledge of strategies to improve Teaching and Learning
  • Consistently good/outstanding teacher as measured by student outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal & presentation skills across the spectrum of stake holders
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and re-prioritise workload when needed
  • A high level of self-awareness – knows strengths and weaknesses and can relate to difficult personality types well

Burnley High School was founded in 2014 in Burnley, Lancashire. It is a mainstream school for mixed pupils aged 11-16. Burnley High School is part of the Education Partnership Trust.
